BF6 Players Concur: Challenges Are Overly Demanding
The launch of the highly anticipated Battlefield 6 received broad praise, notably for its premier multiplayer mode. Exclusively on Steam, concurrent player counts reached a high of nearly 750,000. However, regardless of its fanfare, many players are protesting against a portion of the release's toughest challenges, which are required to unlock specific weapons.
Players have started using custom matches set up using Battlefield Portal to achieve these objectives, underscoring just how grueling these assignments have become.
Grasping BF6 Tasks
Assignments are Battlefield 6's fixed in-game challenges, in contrast to the frequently updated day-to-day and weekly tasks. There are four classes of assignments, but where most merely grant cosmetics and some tools, completing the weapon assignments is the exclusive means of getting twelve from the forty-one main guns available in the game.
A number of these locked weapons might eventually earn a place on lists of the finest arms in Battlefield 6.
Player Outcry via Reddit
Within Reddit, players are understandably expressing their worries about how hard and tedious several of these challenges are. A particular gamer emphasized one of the most egregious examples, needed to obtain the KTS100 MK8 LMG:
- Suppress 300 enemies with LMGs
- Deal 10,000 close-range damage with LMGs
"This mission is so atrocious and entirely ill-conceived, I want to gouge my eyes out," is a comment that illustrates just how frustratingly difficult these tasks are.
The suppression mechanic in Battlefield is weaker than it's ever been in the series, so it doesn't have anywhere near as many positive effects in fights as it used to in previous games. It only counts as suppression if you miss multiple shots in a row.
Meanwhile, using an LMG from the hip is highly imprecise and is effective only at extremely close range, which is not usually a position you aim to be. The commenter also noted the contradiction in the SMG challenge, to unlock the SCW-10, which needs takedowns using ADS, when that mission would be far more appropriate to hipfire kills, and vice versa.
Another Extremely Difficult Mission
Another Reddit user brought attention to another ridiculously tough challenge, now in the long-range weapon type to unlock the PSR:
- Secure 150 precision takedowns beyond 200 meters with sniper rifles
This is challenging enough as it is, but there's another important point to consider: the majority of Battlefield 6 maps do not even allow combat at such a long range.
There's a healthy variety of map sizes, but because there are just nine battlegrounds in the game at present, it means you're limited to playing New Sobek City, a particular valley environment, and possibly Operation Firestorm at a push if you plan to engage from afar from over 200m away.
The Workaround
There is a workaround though: the custom game tool. The custom game creator is a tool that allows you to design tailored experiences on the battleground of your choice, featuring computer-controlled players. This implies you can exploit the mechanics… but it doesn't really seem like the spirit of the game.
But when completing the missions in a standard match feels like anti-playing, since you are forced to participate in such an atypical style that harms both you and your squad, who can fault a player for finishing these in a private match so squad members are not disadvantaged?
Potential Changes
It won't come as a surprise if some of these assignments are adjusted to be less difficult in the coming days or weeks, because if they're not, a portion of the user base simply will never acquire the restricted guns.
For now, the player base continues to express their views on these challenging multiplayer missions, hoping for a more balanced gaming experience in coming revisions.
