Hodgkinson achieved her personal best of one minute 54.61 seconds the previous season in London.

Keely Hodgkinson concluded her 800m season with a triumph at the all-female Athlos event in NYC on Friday evening.

{The current Olympic champion, who secured third place at the global championships last month, excelled in an impressive win in 1:56.53 in what was only her sixth race in a year affected by a hamstring injury.

Fellow Briton and global silver winner Georgia Hunter Bell finished second again in 1:58.33, while the athlete from St Vincent Shafiqua M. (one minute 58.57) claimed third.

"I've barely raced this season so it was likely less of a struggle for me to go out there and be motivated to perform," said Hodgkinson.

"The environment at the event is incredible so it was really, really fun."

The female-exclusive meet packed the stadium in its second edition, introducing a party atmosphere to conventional athletics, with live music and special crowns replacing traditional winners' medals.

The tennis legend with 23 major titles Serena W., who is married to the founder of Athlos Alexis Ohanian, was present to award the winners with their crowns.

Last year's winners took home $60,000 (forty-four thousand six hundred and three pounds) - one of the largest prize purses in track and field.

The event also drew some of the sport's biggest names, as the Kenyan triple Olympic champion and global record breaker Faith Kipyegon triumphed in the mile race, crossing the finish line in four hours 17.78 minutes.

American Brittany B., the 200m bronze medallist from last year's Paris Olympics, secured the 100m and 200m double.
