Peacemaker Second Season Last Episode to Resolve Significant Viewer Grievance, James Gunn Announces
Although audience feedback for Peacemaker the latest season has been mostly positive, with fans and critics praising the performances and storyline—despite the fact that the major revelation in the seventh installment wasn't exactly a surprise—a particular criticism has only grown stronger as the season continues: decreasing runtime lengths.
In recent weeks, viewers have voiced frustration over the noticeably shorter runtimes this season, and it's true, the installments have been getting shorter and shorter. Episode 7, titled “Like a Keith in the Night,” ran just 28 minutes (not counting the recap, title sequence, and closing credits), marking the briefest installment yet.
Fans will be pleased to know next week's episode is nearly an hour in length.
Peacemaker showrunner and DC Universe head James Gunn stated on Threads, replying to a disappointed fan.
Although this is encouraging, it's unknown what portion of the 57 minutes will be actual new footage, uncluttered by intro and outro segments, or summaries of past episodes. That said, even if the episode includes all the previously mentioned non-essential content, that still leaves between 45 and 50 minutes for the finale, which is a significant improvement following the previous installment.
Gunn previously teased that the last episode would not only wrap up Peacemaker but also give a hint regarding the future the greater DCU as a whole will be heading and act as a prequel of sorts for the upcoming Man of Tomorrow film. Considering the cameo of Nicholas Hoult's Lex Luthor from episode 6, fans expect a exciting guest appearance to cap off the show.
The show's finale, the eighth episode, is titled "The Full Nelson," and audiences must wait to find out if fans' suspicions are proven correct.
